Darjeeling - Queen of the hills

Tiger Hill

1km from town at an elevation of 2590m (8428ft) within primitive forests of Oak & Magnotia etc lies "Tiger Hill" Darjeeling's most beautiful gift to the tourist.

Batasia Loop & War Memorial

At Batasia one gets grand view of the town of Darjeeling perched on the slopes of hills Mt.Kanchanjunga in the background.

Almost imperceptibly the railway line negotiates a circle and descends 1000ft. in altitude.

Rock Garden & Gangamaya Park

The Rock Garden was built by Gorkha Hill Council Tourism Department. Situated 10 km from town it is a very attractive picnic spot with natural water falls.

Just below Rock Garden is the recently built Gangamaya Park .This spot has a small artificially built out of natural waterfalls - the lake in which you can go for a joyride on the boat.

Dhirdham Temple

Located near the Darjeeling Railway station, Dhirdham Temple was built in 1939. Temple was built by Rai Saheb Purna Bhadur Pradhan and architect was Beg Raj Sahya.

Japanese Temple (Peace Pagoda)

The Shanti Stupas in India were established by Fuji Guru, a close friend of Mahatma Gandhi, for world peace. There are six beautiful stupas in various places of India and the one in Darjeeling was inaugurated in November 1992.

Sakya Ghoom Monastery

This monastery follows the lineage of Sakya sect of Vajrayana Buddhism. the monastery houses to small philosophical Institute.

Tea Gardens

Darjeeling is well known for its three 'T's - Tea, Tourism and Timber. Darjeeling produces the world's best premium Teas and its "Orthodox" Tea is highly popular all over the world.

Tourists coming to Darjeeling invariably visits the tea gardens of the regions and take back with them a gifs and souvenirs. Darjeeling Tea - widely popular as the "CHAMPAGNE OF THE EAST".

Darjeeling Zoo

The padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park is world famous for its rare kind of animals that it has. While in Darjeeling visit to Darjeeling Zoo is a must to see Snow Leopard, Red Panda, Siberian Tiger, Tibetan Wolf, Markhar, etc.

Darjeeling Ropeway

The cable ride in Darjeeling is a must for its excellent view of the tea garden. It takes you to a tea factory where you can watch the processing of the tea.

Mirik

At an altitude of 5800 feet lies one the most beautiful and newest hill resort. It has got a lake 1.25km long having Boating, Fishing and Beautiful Garden. There is also a foot bridge over the lake.

Jorephokri

The newly constructed Jorephokri is perfect place to spend a afternoon since it is one of the loveliest picnic sports. D. G. H. C. has even got a bungalow there if any one is interested for night stay.

Darjeeling Toy Train

A nineteenth century engineering feat, the 88 km. long narrow gauge, Darjeeling Himalayan Railway was constructed between 1879 and 1888 by Gillanders Arbuthnot and Company. Built with private capital, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway reduced the journey time from Siliguri to Darjeeling in North-Eastern India from 4-5 days to under 12 hours - thus enabling Darjeeling to develop as a hill station and holiday destination. UNESCO has now granted it the status of World Heritage Site.
